Objectives
- Learn to love the sport
- Have a working understanding of appropriate behavior on and off the
field.
- Have a working understanding of key vocabulary.
- Have a working understanding of the rules for his/her age group.
- Have a working understanding of courtly graces.
- Have a basic understanding of offense and defense in youth combat.
- Have a basic understanding of the purpose of the armor in SCA fighting.
- Have a basic understanding of the purpose of weapons in SCA fighting.
Skills
- How to hold the weapons correctly.
- How to put on their own armor.
- How to be responsible for armor and weapons. (Carrying it to and from the field and to and from the event.)
- How to give and take an acceptable blow with single-handed weapon, maces, axes, Great or two-handed weapons of an appropriate length.
- How to use a thrusting tip on weapons.
- How to block a blow with weapon and or shield.
- How to properly salute the Crown (or representative), Parents, opponent.
- How to properly listen to the instructions of the marshallate. Example: execute a hold.
- How to demonstrate proper courtesy at the beginning, middle and end of a bout and off the field.
- Introduce the idea of range weapons.
